Dawn has a point in her last comment. I have had the girls turn the "if you'll let us do/have thus and so we will do thus and so (make out beds, not yell at each other, get changed AND hang up our clothes as soon as we get home from school etc.)" turn quickly into "well if you don't let us do/have thus and so than we won't do thus and so". You would think my response of getting them immediatly to do the latter thus and so coupled with NOT getting the former thus and so would stop this statement from ever being made again but apparently my children have extremely short memories...

On second thought - is this negotiation or an ultimatum? As in, if you don't let me play video games on week days, I won't do ANYTHING you say.

OK, you don't HAVE a fireplace. Could think of lots of other things, though. Scrub the toilets (I hate that). Scrub the kitchen floors. (hey, when they're little they're closer to them, right?)

Good rule (and Isaac's cousins think it is a bit oppresive as well) and it makes those weekend mornings when they can lay in bed and play their DS's all that much more sweet (and therefore they let me sleep in).

Well you could relax the rule and allow video games on one (1) school night....if he does something particularly good during the week! Wait, why am I bargaining for Isaac? LOL

See, we have this rule. No video games on school nights. That way they pay enough attention to homework, piano lessons, etc. Apparently Isaac thinks it's a bit oppressive.

Love it! Kids are awesome in their negotiation skills. When he's done with the fireplace send him to my house.
